Introduction to Oxo-Biodegradable Film
This eco-friendly film undergoes primary oxidative degradation followed by microbial biodegradation.
It is widely used for packaging electrical and electronic components, daily essentials, and agricultural products.
The film returns to nature quickly, making it especially suitable for landfill-based waste disposal environments like Korea,
where rapid breakdown is essential. Hanseo’s oxo-biodegradable films are designed to degrade
within 5–10 years, or within a customized timeframe, ultimately leaving behind only water and organic compounds.

Hanseo’s oxo-biodegradable films
undergo a two-stage degradation process.
  • step 1 Oxidative Degradation
Hanseo’s oxo-biodegradable films begin to degrade once they reach the end of their service life and are disposed of in natural landfill conditions.
This initial stage is called oxidative degradation.
The PLife catalyst accelerates the degradation process, and as oxidation progresses, the polyolefin polymer chains undergo chain scission.
As a result, only very small, low-molecular-weight oxidation residues such as carboxylic acids and alcohols remain

  • step 2 Biodegradation
The trace oxidation residues remaining after Step 1 are gradually composted through the decomposing activity of microorganisms in the soil.
During this stage, the residues naturally break down and are assimilated into the environment.
This process is known as biodegradation or mineralization.
Ultimately, the residues are converted into CO2, H2O, and biomass.

Degradation begins as the polymer chain breaks down into lower molecular-weight fragments and oxidative by-products.
  • 100% Degradation
The remaining trace oxidative residues are gradually decomposed through microbial and soil activity, eventually converting into compost-like material and fully assimilating into the natural environment.
